Nitobe/Kikawada/Ushiba Fellowships for Japanese Social Scientists

Initiated in 1976 with grants from the Ford and Toyota foundations, and currently supported by the Japan Foundation and others, this fellowship program provides an opportunity for promising young Japanese social scientists to engage in advanced study and research abroad. Many of the past fellows have established themselves as leading figures in the Japanese intellectual arena and contributed to the furtherance of international intellectual exchange.

Nitobe Fellowships Symposium:
Its Achievements, Agenda and Future Prospects

The Nitobe Fellowships, initiated in 1976 in order to foster a new generation of potential leaders in the social sciences, will be developed into a new fellowship program.  This symposium will examine what this fellowship has achieved in its 32 years and what still remains to be improved as well as discussing an ideal fellowship program in the 21st century to foster future leaders with an international perspective in terms of Japan’s contribution to the global community.  (Please note that the working language is Japanese and no translation is provided.)
