Lecture on washi (Japanese paper)
Washi, or Japanese traditional paper, is known for its exquisiteness, durability, and usability in fans, shoji screens, and many other items. In this lecture which will be followed by workshops and hands-on sessions on later days at a different venue, our instructor will introduce the basics of the paper making process as well as the methods of producing the variety of papers, and show how Japanese paper differs from that of other cultures/regions. We hope both non-Japanese people who are interested in Japanese culture and Japanese people who would like to re-discover their own culture through English will join the lecture and learn a lot about washi.
