December 25, 2006 A New Book Published

The proceedings of a workshop of the 2004 Training Program for Japanese Information Specialists, “Information Literacy Education in a Digital Age: With a Focus on Academic Libraries Related to Japanese Studies,” has been published. This program was one of the projects executed by the library in order to support Japanese Studies.

December 7, 2006 Notice of New Year’s Closure

The library will be closed for the New Year’s holidays during the following period:

Library closure:
  Friday, December 29, 2006 to Thursday, January 4, 2007

  (The library will close at 3:00 PM on Thursday, December 28, 2006. The
   periodical section will be open every day from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM during
   the New Year’s holidays)

The library will open from 9:00 AM as usual on Friday, January 5, 2007.

November 29, 2006 List of New Arrivals

We have started to place a list of newly arrived books on our web site. Books on the list are now at the new arrivals corner, and are available for borrowing from December 6.
We will continue our information service of new arrivals on our online catalog (Biblio-Japan). With your library card, reservations from OPAC can be made for these books. For other ways of reservation, please contact the library.

In association with the second I-House Academy “The Koizumi Legacy and the Future of Japan: A View from Europe,” the library will hold an exhibition from its collection as follows. Please feel free to visit our library.

    ●Books from the series Nissan Institute/Routledge Japanese
      Studies, for which Prof. Stockwin serves as Editor
Most of the materials are written in English. In order to show them to as many people as possible, please understand that none of the materials can be checked out during the exhibition.

September 29, 2006  Greetings from the new Librarian

I was previously a librarian at the Japan Foundation Library in London and have now been appointed as librarian at the I-house library as of 1st of September 2006.
I look forward to meeting you in person at the library.
Although, the I-house library was providing limited service during the renovation of the main building, it has returned to full service from the 1st of April and since then library staff members have been working hard to make up for lost time.

The library has started the following services from July 2006:

● Borrowing library books without filling out a special check-out form
● Checking your check-out information through our online catalog, Biblio-Japan
● Making reservations for books checked out by other users and renewing library loans
 through Biblio-Japan

Since the library card will be used for these services, please stop by the library to register
your card.
We will be awaiting your visit.

June 20, 2006  Library Cards for users of the I-House Library

The library has started to issue library cards, which carries the library patron’s ID number, from June 2006.
With this library card (library patron ID card), the following services will be available:

 ● Borrowing library books without filling out a special check-out form
 ● Book reservation and renewing library loans through our online catalog (Biblio-Japan).
(This service is scheduled to start from July, 2006)

Since the library card will be used for library circulation services, please stop by
at the library counter to register your card.

March 24, 2006 The temporary suspension of Biblio-Japan: Library Catalog (OPAC)

Our online catalog (Biblio-Japan): Library Catalog (OPAC) is now temporarily suspended for two or three days due to server maintenance.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

March 16, 2006  Notice of IHJ Library services from April 2006

During the renovation period of the House, the library services were scaled back, but they will be back to normal from April 1, 2006, as follows:

Open : Monday through Saturday, 9 AM to 6 PM
Closed : Sundays, National Holidays, New Year’s recess
(The periodical section is open every day from 9 AM to 10 PM)
Users : The library is open to House members and residents, while non-members need an introduction from a regular/corporate member of the House or from another library. Non-member usage is limited to persons of university age and above, and to use in the library.

February 10, 2006  Notice of Temporary Closure of the Library

We have kept our library open throughout the renovation of the main building, but we regret to inform you that we will have to close the library reading room from Monday, February 13th, to Wednesday, March 8th, 2006, due to construction activity around the library entrance.

Though the reading room will be closed, the library staff will be available for consultation and requests by telephone, fax, lettter or e-mail.
