Dec. 6, 2010 Notice of Year-end/New Year’s Recess and Suspension of OPAC

The library will close from 6:00 pm on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 and will open from 9:00 am on Wednesday, January 5, 2011.
The periodical section will be open as usual from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm
Please note that the Internet library catalog (OPAC) will also be suspended during this period.

Jul. 7, 2010  Call for participants for the Japan Specialist Workshop: Access to the Culture and the Society of Contemporary Japan 2011

The International House of Japan and the National Diet Library of Japan are jointly launching the Japan Specialist Workshop: Access to the Culture and Society of Contemporary Japan 2011, to support the improvement of the knowledge and skills for accessing information of overseas Japanese study specialists and Japanese study information specialists, including librarians and curators.

The theme of this Workshop is the field of the social sciences (politics, economics, and law), and the objective is acquisition of the necessary knowledge and skills for accessing the latest information in Japanese studies, as well as contributing to the construction of a close human network among Japan specialists in various countries.

We hope for many applications.
Schedule : February 14 to 21, 2011
Intended for: Those who live outside Japan, and are in a position to obtain, offer, and disseminate Japanese information.
(Including Young Japanese studies researchers, librarians and curators who have working experience in obtaining and introducing Japanese information.)
Costs: The cost for round-trip plane tickets (up to a maximum amount,) and lodging at the International House of Japan (nine nights with breakfast) will be provided by the organizer.
Language: Japanese

Sam Hamill + Leza Lowitz, Poetry Reading” from 7 pm after the library is closed on Monday, May 17, 2010.
The periodical section will be open as usual, until 10 pm. We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause for patrons using the periodical section during this time.

April 8, 2010 Grant from Kasumi Kaikan

The Library has received a grant in the amount of 305,000 yen from the Kasumi Kaikan.
As a result, books that played an important role in the spread of Japonism have been added to our collection.
