Membership System and Private Policy


The activities of the International House are supported by individual and corporate members. House membership is open to persons and corporations on approval by the Membership Committee. Please go to the page "Applications" for further processing and please read our bylaws and privacy policy prior to applying for membership. Please contact the Membership Department for a corporate membership application form.

*There will be no difference in a member's privileges and rights regardless of the amount chosen.
*The initial donation may be waived or discounted when a relative of an I-House member applies for membership. (The offer for some discounts will expire on March 31, 2022.)
*The initial donation requirement will be discounted or waived for ambassadors, ministers, and cultural officers of foreign diplomatic missions in Japan.

Individual Members

Individuals of standing in scholarship, the arts, or other fields, who desire to contribute to or to cooperate in the activities of the House.

Term Members

Term Membership will be useful for foreign expatriates stationed in Japan for a few years or persons who wish to try out House membership.

Corporate Members

Corporations endorsing the aims and activities of the House may become Corporate Members.

Program Members

Undergraduate and graduate students of universities in Japan, as well as international students and scholars who are staying temporarily in Japan, under 30 years old in principle, with the exception of graduate students, who use the House library and also participate in various programs organized by the House.

Library Members

Graduate students, researchers and individuals who use the House library for the purpose of research.
