Memorial Service and Reception For Donald Richie

Long-time friend and advisor to the I-House Donald Richie passed away at age 88 on February 19 after a long illness. Donald is known not only for his contributions to the internationalization of Japanese film, but also for his insightful writings on Japanese culture, musical compositions, fiction and his own experimental films. Donald specified no funeral service, but in recognition of his contributions to the International House of Japan, we are planning a memorial service and reception to highlight the various aspects of his profound cultural legacy.

  • Place: Iwasaki Koyata Memorial Hall, The International House of Japan
  • Fee: 10,000 yen (includes reception and commemorative book)
  • Sponsored by the International House of Japan, with support from the US Embassy

Please refrain from bringing flowers or any other offerings.
Dress code is informal.
