In 2024, the 120th anniversary of the death of Lafcadio Hearn—renowned writer and folklorist also known as Yakumo Koizumi—was commemorated. This year, 2025, marks the 175th anniversary of his birth.
To honor his legacy, the I-House library and the Bibliothèque de la Maison franco-japonaisewill present a joint exhibition highlighting Hearn’s works and critical studies. As one of the earliest Western interpreters of Japanese culture, Hearn played a vital role in introducing Japan’s language and customs to the world.
We invite you to explore his vision of Japan through writings in both English and French.
